FCE prep.-before the school year <3

!!this thread also contains a detailed explanation of the exam itself
a little heads-up, my handwriting isn’t the best so just bear with me.
first off, what books do i use?
i use:
~Close-up -> Student’s Book (SB) & Workbook(WB), Level B1+
~Grammarway (with answers), Level 3
Disclaimer: I used the Close-up books during the last school year so now i’m filling in the exercises that I haven’t done
here at the covers of the books in case you guys are interested<3
now, how many hours a day do i spend studying for my FCE exam?
easy, it depends on the day. if i know i have something planned i usually spend less time since school hasn’t started yet.
but if i’m free, i usually spend around 2 hours, maybe 3.
another disclaimer hehe: i already sat for 2 other cambridge exams, KET and PET. in the next years to come, besides the FCE, i plan on sitting for CAE and IELTS. with these on my resume, hopefully i’ll end up going to college in England like i always dreamed :)
what’s the structure for the FCE exam?
there are 4 parts basically:
-Reading
-Writing
-Listening
-Speaking
I’ll break down each of them in the next few tweets
Reading and Writing: explained (p1)
These are, from my experience, the easiest parts of the exam. I grouped them together because that’s how i remember taking them in the PET exam, although i don’t know if the way we sit for the exam parts has changed or not.
Reading and Writing: explained (p2)
Now, from the official cambridge website, the Reading part takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes and has 52 questions. the Writing part on the other hand takes 1 hour and 20 minutes and requires you to produce two pieces of writing (letters, essays)
Listening: explained (p1)
Now this part is slightly difficult because you have to be able to perceive very strong british accents sometimes and then understand the task and the photos given in a short amount of time. The Listening part takes up to 40 minutes.
Listening: explained (p2)
The audio materials will be played twice so that way if you didn’t understand the first time, you have another chance. And if you still don’t understand, it’s better to fill out the answers randomly than to not fill anything at all.
Listening: explained (p3)
Usually all the answers are mentioned in the audio to trick you but only one is correct. I’ll try to find an example when we get to the actual studying part hehe.
Speaking: explained (p1)
This is the most difficult part from my experience. For a native english speaker i think it would be easier, but when i talk i always stutter and i have a very heavy accent so i always get lower points here than the other parts.
Speaking: explained (p2)
What’s different is that now you’re not alone anymore. You’re with another candidate, and two examiners. One of the examiners is directing you, while the other listens and takes notes and checks different pointers. This part takes up to 14 minutes.
Speaking: explained (p3)
The other candidate is most likely a stranger, so this is also an anxiety test because you have to talk to them like you’ve known them for a long time (but you get like 5 minutes before to talk to them)
Speaking: explained (p4)
This part tests your ability to communicate effectively in face to face situations. You will take the Speaking test with one or two other candidates.
and that’s basically it
If you guys have any questions about anything i said in this thread please don’t hesitate to text me<3
tomorrow i’m going to start the actual studying part (that i still have to figure out how to show it to you guys) and i’m also going to try to update every week until my exam but for now this is it <3 thank you for reading all of this hehe
