Unpopular opinion: there is no horse race to cover for the 2020 US election.

Opinions about Trump are so deeply entrenched that the polls don’t move + Biden is extremely well known.

Therefore, stop covering the horse race & start covering actual policies + voter suppression.

All the NYT interviews with people at a diner who haven’t changed their mind since 2016, all the Twitter debate about how protests will impact voters, all the new polls showing there has been no serious changes in months or years, have very little value in the current election.

So if there was ever a time for journalists to cover topics like voter registration or suppression as well as substantive policy issues, this would be it.

Kudos to journalists who can ignore the noise and focus on the real signal.
