Ok, so while I am writing I have a documentary on the Third Reich on and...well, let me suggest some rules for documentaries on the Nazis. You have limited screentime. Use it widely.

Pay attention, directors!

- You can make a film on the Nazis without ANY Wagner. Really. It's not required. Not even the Twilight of the Gods.
- Himmler, the SS, and the Occult. If you devote more than 0 minutes to Himmler's weird Nordic kink, you're doing it wrong.

Even Hitler thought Himmler was a clownshow on this point. Despite Captain America, most Nazis weren't out to find some ancient bones or whatever. Stop.
- Normal tone of voice. Yes, it's heavy stuff, but, cmon. You need to add ANY MORE gravity to this topic. It sells itself. So stop talking like giving the Gettysburg Address.
- The German army and drugs. Yeah, they had methamphetamines. So did everybody else. If you find yourself feeling the need to talk about the Nazis running around all coked out of their minds, you've read too much pop history. (<cough, Blitzed, cough>). You should know better.
- Wewelsburg Castle. Not really THAT important. You probably haven't even heard of it. No one else really has to. See entry on the occult.
- Ok, yes the Lebensborn was a thing. The SS had a penchant for breeding and illegitimate little Aryans but this was NOT a huge thing. If you are devoting more than 15 seconds, it's YOUR kink or you've watched Ilse She-Wolf one too many times.
- The Waffen-SS wasn't really THAT elite. They had high casualty rates because they were fanatical and dumb. But fanatical and dumb ≠ militarily competent. Google "Wehraboo." Revise and resubmit.
- Hitler speeches: 2 minutes, total. It's important to get a feel for him speaking. But we don't need the director's cut. 2 minutes throughout the film is enough. (And subtitle it, for Christ's sake.)
- Triumph of the Will was filmed during the 1934 Party Rally. You've got ELEVEN more years to go. Pace yourself. I know, rows of dudes with their shirts off carrying shovels and weird group exercise may hit a demographic, but keep moving.
- A lot of directors don't seem to realize this but...there were actually Jews, communists, LGBT folks, etc around. They thought things, said things, wrote things. Include that stuff. Really. (You can use of the time saved by cutting Himmler's crush on Henry the Fowler.)
- Hitler's sexual proclivities.

1) Not really that important.

2) Ewwww.
Ok, I was going to keep going but I had to turn this thing off after they showed a 1941 photograph of a pogrom in Lithuania as an example of 1938 Kristallnacht violence.
