I joined the Liberal Democrats 21 years ago under Charles Kennedy. I was proud to be a member. Proud to be against concentrations of power & wealth, against tuition fees and illegal wars, and proud to be for internationalism, for europe and for electoral reform.
From 2007 onwards, the party started to drift away from many of those values. Nick Clegg socialised the idea of an in out referendum on Europe, Ed Davey got thrown out of the Commons over it, and...
... of course, the ugly slide to the centre right on the economy during coalition was unforgivable and has never been sufficiently apologised for.
If you're a @RemainiacsCast listener, you'll have heard my anger after the 2019 election - the wilful ignoring of the data that happened at HQ and among the leadership, that predicted a vote leave government landslide.
Clegg wanted power so much that he enabled Cameron who delivered the Brexit vote, and Swinson, similarly power hungry, enabled Johnson who will deliver the hardest of Brexits. The so-called pro europe party, helped secure U.K. departure from the EU. I have resigned from the LDs.
I’m avowedly pro-European, and believe in international cooperation to advance social and liberal democracy. I spend most of my days fighting for a more progressive, open society.

I can best do that through cross-party working with internationalists in all parties...
...and with amazing campaign groups across the country and globally, who share those values and who want to help create a better, more equal, fairer, greener, healthier democracy.
