my experience with bunion / hallux valgus surgery:
making this thread to share my experience of the surgery itself and the post op recovery and hopefully this information can give insight for people who also want to get it done one day
basic info:
-I got it done at 20 years old.
-I had pretty moderate bunions and I have had them since I was an early teen.
-I have always worn sneakers and loose shoes so they didn't come from wearing high heels, it's hereditary for me.
-I got my left foot done on July 15, 2020

surgery:
I got the chevron osteotomy done on my left foot. I decided to get an epidural so I was awake during the whole surgery. The surgery itself was finished within 30 minutes and it took around 3 hours for the anesthetics to wear off.

post op, cast phase:
I had to wear a foot cast for 6 weeks. The first week was the only week I could consider painful, but it was manageable. The first week I couldn't really put my foot down bc of the pain, but in the end of week two I could put my foot down without pain.

after week 2 my cast was switched and they told me I was allowed to carefully walk on my heel, but the whole 6 weeks I wasn't allowed to put pressure on it so I mainly walked with crutches. From week 2 on I also started working again doing mainly cash register work.
