2/4 when the Kemalists took over, Topal Osman Pasha then continued his operations in the Black Sea region, this time targeting Pontian Greeks. He is one of the key perpetrators of the Greek Genocide by the Kemalists, he operated under Mustafa Kemal's Authority in Pontus.

3/4 Today there is a Statue commemorating Topal Osman in the city of Giresun, it's construction was however blocked in 1981 by the Turkish Historical Society and then again blocked in 2001 by the mayor of the city, it eventually went up in 2007 despite past opposition.
