THREAD: VOTING & THE SUPREME COURT

I am a progressive. I want free medicare for all healthcare, I want criminal justice reform, I want to demilitarize/re-allocate police, I want clean green energy, I want universal basic income, and I want to get rid of the electoral college.
Achieving these progressive goals will require landmark legislation and reforms at every level of government. So, to pass these new laws and implement these reforms, we will need to get more progressives and liberals into power.

We will need more liberals in state legislatures,
more liberals in the U.S. House and especially the Senate, and we will need a liberal President in the White House. But above all, we will need a liberal Supreme Court.
Even if we somehow pass all this bold progressive legislation through Congress, even if we get a President to
sign these reforms into law, they can still be challenged and taken to the Supreme Court.
Health insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry will sue against these laws. Oil and gas companies will sue. Banks will sue. Police unions will sue. Even the states will
will sue the federal government. They will pursue their lawsuits all the way to the Supreme Court.
And, if the Supreme Court has 5 conservative Justices and only 4 liberal Justices, the Supreme Court will strike down these reforms. The Supreme Court will side with the banks and
the health insurance companies and the fossil fuel industry and so forth. The Supreme Court is literally supreme; they have the final say on pretty much everything in our country.

So, if we want progressive reforms, if we want M4A, if we want to reduce greenhouse gases and car
emissions, if we want to end income inequality, if we want to make our elections fair, we liberals MUST regain control of the Supreme Court.

The nine Justices on the Supreme Court get lifetime appointments. Some of them stay on the court for more than 20 years.

20 YEARS.
In the next 4 years, it is likely that three Supreme Court Justices will retire, which means three new Supreme Court Justices will need to be appointed. The President nominates them, and the Senate approves them.

If we want a liberal Supreme Court, we need liberal Supreme Court
Justices in those seats, because they'll be there making decisions about our future for the next 20 YEARS.

Therefore, it is vitally important that the next President is a liberal, so we can get liberal Justices nominated to the Supreme Court.

Remember, we cannot achieve any of
our progressive goals unless liberals have majority control of the Supreme Court.

In November 2020, the only two Presidential candidates who have a chance of winning are Trump and Biden.

If Trump wins, he will appoint three ultra-conservative Justices to the Supreme Court, and
those ultra-conservative Justices will be on the court for the next 20 YEARS.

If we lose the Supreme Court for the next 20 years, we will never be able to achieve ANY of the reforms we seek for the next 20 years. The conservative Justices will just say no.

The choice is clear.
Therefore, right now, in 2020, liberal voters need to be thinking about those next 20 years.

If we want ANY of our reforms to have a chance, then we MUST get a liberal Supreme Court, and the only possible way to get that is to have Joe Biden become our next President.
ELECTING
BIDEN
IS
THE ONLY
WAY
WE
HAVE
A
CHANCE
TO
ACHIEVE
PROGRESSIVE
REFORMS
IN
AMERICA.
Presidents get elected every 4 years. Senators get elected every 6 years. But Supreme Court Justices get appointed every 20 YEARS OR LONGER.

This is one of those years, when the Supreme Court is on the line.

If Biden gets elected and he sucks, you can vote for someone else in
4 years in 2024. But any new Supreme Court Justices who get appointed by Trump in 2021 cannot be replaced until 2040!

If you want M4A and justice overhaul and climate action and election reform, or if you want anything else progressive to happen in
the next 20 years, you must focus on the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is the key to everything.

That is the one and only reason anyone should need to vote for Biden-Harris this year.

Don't waste your vote on a 3rd party candidate. Voting for an unelectable 3rd party
candidate doesn't help us get a liberal Supreme Court for the next 20 years.

Don't stay home because you don't want to participate in the 2-party system. Staying home doesn't help us get us a liberal Supreme Court for the next 20 years.

And, by the way, if you
don't like the 2-party system, and you want to see it changed, then guess what? You need a liberal Supreme Court for that, too.

Elections are about decisions. Political strategy must consider the long-term.

What we voters do in November 2020 will effect the future of our
country for the next 20 years.

This is literally the most important election of your life. We have a chance to take control of the Supreme Court for the next 20 years. If we don't achieve that, we can't achieve anything else either.

Don't fuck yourself over. Vote #BidenHarris.
ADDENDUM:
I wrote this thread *before* Ruth Bader Ginsburg died. Now Trump and the Senate are installing another radical conservative on the Supreme Court, and she will be there for 20 YEARS. If Trump is re-elected, he will appoint 2 more conservatives. See how this works?
Biden will not appoint conservatives to the Supreme Court. From 2021-2024, he'll appoint liberal Supreme Court Justices.

Therefore, if you want ANY liberal policies enacted, you *MUST* vote for #Biden.

Otherwise, Trump wins and progressive policies are blocked for 20 years.
If you vote for a 3rd party candidate, or if you refuse to vote in this election, you are actually HURTING our chances to achieve progressive policies in the next 20 YEARS.

It sucks but that's our reality in 2020.

Voting #BidenHarris is the only path forward for progressives.
