in response to the fourth senseless murder in two months at an apartment complex, the indy ten point coalition calls for it to be “demolished.” interesting, because the city has been trying to build over at least 100 homes here since 2013

this woman was shot by a security guard who had priors impersonating leo and got off. and this clearly right-wing faith group (who’ve made fellows w impd and fop) predictably labels everyone in that area a criminal that should be pushed away. why not do your magic “patrols?”

the ten point coalition is, of course, against divesting any funding from the gigantic police budget back into programs that have been gutted and/or destroyed

the ten point coalition also, clearly, has a very familiar interest in using isolated incidents of interpersonal violence—even a squabble between teens in a food court—to condemn parents who can’t raise their kids right or some organized menace requiring more state intervention

here’s what some friends of indy ten point have to say about the largely made up thug problem—particularly the fop president. bc indianapolis is rather liberal, lots of dog whistling and less of the blatant maga conservatism here:

over the course of an hour and two cigarette breaks, i saw a group of three people and a group of five people. all looked kind of dumb and/or crazy; exactly the sort of people this city have left behind. exactly the sort i see everyday roaming the streets, even more post covid

they were yelling at each other; it was so unremarkable i couldn’t tell you what it was about. maybe because they have fucking zilch and no one is helping them. it’s important to say i stood by while these people argued with zero concern of them victimizing me in any way ...

in other words, they didn’t seem like CRIMINALS or looking to cause random harm, to me. i walk back inside, check the aisles, and a coworker says she heard gunfire. seconds later, an already dazed, scruffed up, likely homeless white man held a gunshot wound under his arm ....
