South Carolina is the black American motherland.

Hate on it if you want to but we’re all either from there or have family there.
My love for my home state is so complicated because of the, uhhh, rich history.

As much as I am in love with the landscapes and culture, I obviously can’t see them without seeing centuries and centuries of trauma and violence.
But I still love the (read:my) people, the food, the accents, the swamps, the country (and I mean CUN-TREE), the 110 degree weather.

Going to sleep to cicadas and waking up to mourning doves. I love my home state.
Saying you love any part of the Un*ted St*tes as a child of the Diaspora does feel like Stockholm syndrome though.
Some folks being triggered by this statement is beyond my understanding but I suggest reading up on the port of charleston

Charleston was one of the first major human trafficking ports this is a fact.
