I keep hearing this as a talking point on the right.

One look at the numbers will reveal how foolishly mistaken this is. About 1,000 deaths/day and steady.

The virus doesn't care if liberals or whoever you have a problem with are hypocrites about protests or whatnot. https://twitter.com/WidowsSon10/status/1299553027494477825
Yes, the spread has gotten better in recent weeks, because its no longer flaming out of control in Texas, Florida, Arizona, or California, but starting to decelerate. That's great, but it didn't happen by itself.
And this is summer, when respiratory diseases normally find it harder to spread. We just don't know what the Fall looks like, with colder weather. That's not a prediction, it's just an acknowledgement of what we don't know.
I know everyone is tired of this. I'm tired of it. I've cancelled trips and family vacations. I dread managing online classes for my kids, who are already overexposed to the internet and missing their friends.

But the virus doesn't care about ANY of this.
I'm so exasperated by this notion that because some people display double standards when it comes to risky activities, based on political sympathies, that this hypocrisy somehow makes risky activities not risky in reality.
It treats this pandemic like it's a political gotcha game, and not a health crisis. And just because someone you don't like may TREAT it as a gotcha game, doesn't make it one.
We've developed this strange way of dealing with real life issues like they are "narratives" and whoever shapes the narrative wins. It's going to get us killed, either in a pandemic or a war.
Because when China fires ballistic missiles at our aircraft carrier, it won't matter which "narrative" won the 24-hour cable TV news cycle, or whether you like Fox or CNN. Reality will hit home, one way or the other.
