I feel like this is the time for us, as able people, to truly listen to the voices of disabled people.

For too long, we have not been holding space for them and their disability. We have not welcomed them. We have not supported them.
All we’ve, unfortunately, continued to do is ignore their plight and turn away from it. We can’t keep doing this anymore.

How many disabled people in our lives are we not supporting? Physically & emotionally?
Able people have a responsibility to educate others and ourselves on what solidarity with disabled people looks like.
So, some of us may feel we supported him, but not enough for him to be vulnerable with us.
That’s on all of us.
How can we show up for disabled people in our lives so that they don’t ever have to feel that shame?
It starts with listening to disabled people and learning about their plight in this ableist world.
Here’s a list of people who I’ve learned from about the complexities of disability for the past few years.

@QueerDeaf
@everydaynoir
@deafdisableddis
@chronicparent30
@afro__ditee
@LoveAndShalom
@mumistarr
@charlhyde
@CHRONICallyCUTE
@cyreejarelle

This is not at all an inclusive list of all the people I’ve learned from.

What I admire about the people I’ve mentioned is their commitment to honoring their truths.

Speaking freely about the shit we, as able people, put them through.
It’s about time we start hearing the uncomfortable truths.

Disabled people are FED THE FUCK UP.
