(1/9) I don’t like Jacob Blake. He’s arguably not a good person, dangerous even. Frankly I don’t care if he’s handcuffed to his hospital bed, he has warrents out for sexual assault. But I will fight for his right to be treated like a human being. JB wasn’t shot because he was
attacking someone and there was no other option, he was shot because he is black and we’ve developed a policing system that views black and brown people as subhuman, a policing system that is filled with trigger-happy, ill-prepared, ill-trained, angry people who are looking to
hurt. Just like that dipshit kid who was so excited to spray bullets into people’s heads he couldn’t even wait until he was old enough to sign up for the force. I also don’t want him to die. He and his parents *should* be charged with murder and go to prison, but I don’t want him
to die. We are actively dehumanizing people we don’t see eye to eye with, and the gleefulness with which edgelord trolls are memeing the murders of people they don’t like is a marker of our time. David Dorn's death was a tragedy, too, & now it will be paraded around as a
political prop for all time, ripping apart his family in the process.
If the mol*sters, abusers, or handful of r*pists I’ve encountered in my life were being shot casually by police during an unrelated nonviolent dispute I would not be ok with it. All of them were white except
one, however, so I doubt it will be something I have to worry myself over. That being said, the fact that Jacob Blake is a rap*st should not be a right wing talking point, it should be in DEFENSE of police reform. Even if he is total garbage he deserves the same rights we’re all
supposed to have. And while we fight for his rights it’s important we fight for the women he’s hurt. Please don’t use him as a figurehead, paint his picture on walls, have him wheel himself out at the front of parades. We have to have a nuanced, realistic conversation if we’re
going to make change happen, that shit guys who also happen to be brown deserve the same rights as white shit guys.
Obviously I'm not going to post pictures of him. So here's a picture of Sandy Guardiola, a parole officer who was asleep in her bed who was shot to death by a
cop doing an unexplained "wellness check" on her, who did not call paramedics as she was bleeding out, staged a scene to cover his tracks, and was not convicted nor spent time in jail. Look her up. The police system is broken. Thanks for coming to my talk. /end
