Joseph Rosenbaum died fighting for justice. He was practicing Judaism.

I wrote these in response to a headline (for which the editors have since apologized) saying Rosenbaum wasn't from a "practicing" Jewish family. What's been interesting is the number of @'s I've gotten arguing that he wasn't (rly) Jewish &/or committed crimes in his past,

as if either of those things would make his murder by an armed vigilante an acceptable thing.

And yet (even if true!), neither of those things are capital offenses and that vigilante - Rosenbaum's self-appointed judge, jury, and executioner - is simply a murderer.

I've been offline, but when I checked my @'s just now, I found that the top of this thread had been found by antisemites who engage in conspiracy theories about Jews being pedophiles, & are also spreading accusations of pedophilia against one of the Kenosha shooters' victims.

I immediately went into lockdown mode, changed my header & avatar (two very simple tools that often positively BAFFLE trolls, make a note of it!), blocked & reported a few accounts, & now I'm back!

My record as an advocate for the victims of sexual assault, by anyone, anywhere, at any time, is decades long and clear as a bell. The fact that Jews are not, in fact, inhuman predatory monsters is also, I believe, well-established.

Fighting for justice, to repair this broken world, is a deeply Jewish act. Jews pray with our feet.

But more to the point: There is no crime the punishment for which is, or should be, being randomly gunned down by a freelance vigilante serving as judge, jury, & executioner.

PS What a great case study in Antisemitism 2020!

A flowchart:

A) indulge in the centuries-old canard that Jews are sexually deviant & dangerous -> B) declare it's ok to murder a Jew you've accused of pedophilia -> C) harass a Jew who talked about that Jew on social media

FANTASTIC. Some of them found my burner email & also my Medium account, where one took the trouble to comment on my post about the trolls who trolled me about COVID: "Emily supports violent pedophiles, too. She thinks Covid is real and supports pedos," etc & so on. WHAT FUN.

(Though in one of the comments he did refer to me as a "girl" so perhaps I should just go bask in my own youthful glow.)
