Is anything more boring than Victorians insisting “potato scallop” is wrong and we must call them potato cakes? Victoria, I love you and I know lockdown is hard but seriously, live and let live. By the way, a ‘scallop’ is a rippled edge. That’s how the mollusc gets its name too.
PS When I hear “potato cake”, I actually think of fish cakes where the potato is diced or mashed rather than a potato that’s been scalloped (sliced thinly, battered and fried to create the rippled edge).
(But I don’t tell Victorians they’re wrong to say “potato cake”. They can if they want and context will probably make it clear)
