Last week I was sent to the emergency room from the clinic after they were alarmed by my vital signs. They ran lots of tests and ultimately found nothing. They asked me to talk to my primary doctor. I went in after 10 days of extreme lethargy and occasional dizziness.
It scared me to my core. I took time off work. I went to my primary doctor who diagnosed it as depression and anxiety. I don't talk about my health on here. It makes me uncomfortable, but I'm seeing this play out with a lot of my friends. Especially my campaign friends.
If you feel like you don't have as much energy as you used to, if your diet is getting worse, if you are irritable, if you aren't as interested in socializing as you once were: talk to your doctor. The normal side effects of working on a campaign can often be big warning signs.
I have seen a ton of folks in campaigns hurting from this. You should not expect yourself to be as productive as you normally would (we are in a pandemic.) A friend told me, "listen to what your body is telling you." Your body is your partner in life, not a vessel to command.
Take time off, talk to your "people", verbalize your emotions with your support system. You don't have to hold all this together, and you certainly can't fix everything that is broken right now. Ask for help when you need it. Talk to your doctor.
