Even if these protests led to the end of ALL unjust murders by the hands of police, the lives saved would be a fraction of the amount that we are losing and will lose to COVID.

As a public health official, you should NOT be playing politics with your answers.

And that holds true regardless of my personal general inclinations towards agreement with the protestors. We can not afford to have ever more people lose faith in experts by staking out blatantly contradictory positions.

I still hold that such protests were a necessary wake-up call in the aftermath of Floyd’s shooting. Even then, I’d be iffy on public health experts arguing against what would keep us safe, given that is their job. Now, all these months later? No.
