Thread: My 10 Marketing Commandments

(continued on the next tweet)
1. Research is by far the most important piece.

Know your customer better than they know themselves.

What they *really* want...

Is different then what they *say* they want
2. Clearly define your customer avatar and buyer personas.

If you sell to “everyone”… you sell to no one.
3. All tactics *work*.

Paid advertising is the most scalable, obviously.

But you don’t *need* it to build a large business…

If you have a large enough addressable audience (email list, followers, affiliates)
4. Always invest in good copywriting.

The difference between a good online business that generates a healthy full-time income...and a real home?

It's almost always copywriting.
5. Spy on your competition.

And not just *direct* competitors, either.

Mystery shop and study anyone solving a similar problem or fulfilling a similar desire as your offer.
6. Never compete on price.

Create value and capture value.
7. Exceptional customer service is how you get referrals and repeat business.

Take is seriously.
8. Branding: you don’t need to be perfect or take 6 months to build a brand.

But it does matter.

Be consistent in voice, visuals and emotions you channel.
9. Friction.

Do *everything* in your power to reduce friction at every step of the funnel.

The most obvious thing here is SPEED (loading times on mobile especially).

But don’t forget about UI/UX, payment methods, shipping speeds and consumption experience for info products.
10. Always be testing.

Marketing fundamentals (and human nature) doesn’t change.

But consumer behavior does.

The best time to test new copy and creatives and offers is when everything is working perfectly.
