Okay, something’s been on my mind about political violence, if you’ll indulge me for a thread.

Why don’t we ever talk about the congressional baseball shooting?
We had an event three years ago that, but for the heroism and quick thinking of two CPD officers, would’ve been the most significant act of political violence - at the hands of a democratic campaign volunteer - since, what, JFKs assassination?

And we just don’t talk about it.
And we have Dem elected officials who are using the same hateful and vitriolic language that radicalized one of their own to commit the atrocity about their republican colleagues.

Just look. https://twitter.com/rww_gop/status/1299368229383688192
Where is the outrage? Where is the concern? Why don’t we see shades in that fateful day in the harassment of Rand Paul as he’s trying to cross the street? Or the shopkeepers who are attacked by protestors?
I was on the Hill when the baseball shooting happened. I vividly remember the fear - for everyone, both sides of the aisle - of political violence. We came together and, for a brief moment, took down the temperature. A little, anyway.
And now, three years later, we’re back to where we were. Only worse.

It. Will. Happen. Again.

There’s no other way around it. We will see something like that shooting happen again.

Where are the reasonable Dems to condemn this? To condemn the violence in the streets?
And where will they be when it does happen again? Will @AyannaPressley concede that what she had to say contributed to the climate, if not the act?

We get news bending over backwards to blame Trump for political events real and imagined. Does it cut both ways?
I doubt it. And this isn’t a defense of the language used by some on the right.

But cmon. We can all see where the worst of it - and where the actual violence and threat thereof - is coming from right now. You aren’t seeing Republican mobs swarming Dem electeds.
