While traveling to wales a friend introduced me to @waze over Google maps and it's brilliant. They are everything that Google Maps is and more. A short thread on few things that stood out.
Police and Speed cam warnings are unique. These features are like walking on ethical tight rope. Would warning users about cops enable them to be compliant only at that time? But this is something that Google can't do which a challenger can... brilliant user case.
In addition they seem to be having an active community. During the trip saw multiple warnings of stopped cars, hazard, crash and closure all updated and validated by users. You can also chat with community members
Gamification: To increase engagement they use the familiar trope of points and ranking. During your trip you can see fellow wazers and their rank.
Plus they also have everything that Google maps offer. Pretty much.
I think Waze is a great example of how to compete with giants. Through wonderful unique usecases on top of what others offer they have now got a new loyalist. Me. Well done @waze
