It took three attempts, but at today's press conference Kenosha's sheriff finally acknowledges the loss of life that occurred; says daughter reminded him he hadn't spoke about it at previous appearances.

"I feel really bad that this happened here in Kenosha." Doesn't say names.
Kenosha's police chief, who seemed to blame shooting victims for violating curfew at Wednesday's press conference, now condemns media and elected officials for "divisive comments."
Kenosha police chief also offers something resembling an apology for his comments Wednesday, saying they were misunderstood & he didn't mean to minimize loss of life. Like the sheriff, he's light on specifics, but speaking w/ newfound awareness of how poorly last conference went
Credit where it's due: The Wisconsin National Guard rep has been far and away the most articulate, compassionate and seemingly competent presence at these press conferences. By far has expressed the most concern over loss of life, and is also most willing to answer questions
Press asks police chief why Rittenridge was able to leave scene after killing 2.

"To understand what happened that night and what happened in that video clip, you need to understand... there were a lot of people in the area, a lot of people with weapons, and a lot of gunfire."
Kenosha police chief says Rittenridge was allowed to leave b/c "There was nothing to suggest this person was involved in criminal behavior." Even though video shows protesters shouting that he'd shot people.

Asked if that was a lapse in judgement, says "I would say not."
Kenosha police chief asked a question we'll be hearing a lot over the next few days: Will anybody else be charged as an accomplice? Says doesn't know.

Rittenhouse's mom drove him across state lines with an AR-15 to commit murder.

(Sorry for mistyping his name in last tweet)
Sheriff also asked whether Rittenhouse's mom could be charged. Says he was just asked the same thing this morning.

"That's the first I heard of it. I didn't know that she did [drive.]"

Says investigation is not his, but it's amazing how out of the loop this guy is on everything
Amazing: Kenosha sheriff asked if he sees a problem with what video of Jacob Blake shooting shows. Says he can't answer b/c he hasn't seen video.

"Really??" reporter asks

"I'm sticking with that."

"Is it a problem, that you haven't seen the video?"

He stops taking questions.
If Kenosha sheriff's comments are true -- and they clearly cannot be, even though he doubled down -- then he is the one person in this country who has not yet seen video of the Jacob Blake shooting.
Kenosha mayor asked about calls for Kenosha's police chief and sheriff to resign, and if he thinks they should.

He says no.

Press conference ends. Tonally this was a lot less dense than the two before it, but offered very few reassurances about state of policing in Kenosha.
