posting my the last of us 2 thoughts. obviously spoilers below so if u haven’t played it don’t read it yet!

after replaying the last of us 2 (and fresh from my replay of tlou1 beforehand) i loved it so much more the second time. i genuinely feel bad for people that didn’t enjoy the last of us 2. 1/(?)

and that’s not me being an asshole because it must suck to wait years for something you think is disappointing. but i kinda don’t understand it. the main complaint i’ve seen is it it portrays ellie as a villain 2/(?)

if you think there’s a villain to the story then that’s just a purposeful misunderstanding. the first game doesn’t portray joel to be a hero at all, he chose the selfish decision. i don’t blame him at all for what he chose but there would obviously have been consequences. 3/(?)

i love joel as much as everyone (the last of us was my favorite game of all time) and i empathize with him especially the brutality that goes down. and that’s the point. we feel ellie’s anguish and thirst for vengeance and are more than willing to do anything to seek it. 4/(?)

ESPECIALLY at the end of ellie’s day 3. but then we see abby, we see her side, we see what she went and is going through. there is no hero because everyone thinks they’re doing the right thing we’re just biased to see one greater side (ellie/joel’s side). 5/(?)

i think the games chances of being enjoyed rides on how much you can empathize. another complaint i heard was it ended up being for nothing but i disagree. ellie was plagued by the memory of joel’s death 6/(?)

she thought abby’s death would satisfy her but when it came up to the moment. she realized not only is she losing everything because of her thirst for revenge (her son, her wife, her home) she’s just repeating the cycle with lev watching abby die in front of his eyes. 7/(?)

in the last moments, ellie gets reminded of a good memory of joel for the first time and saves abby. because that’s what joel would’ve done. joel would’ve done anything to save ellie, exactly how abby would put her life on the line for lev. 8/(?)

there is no good and bad person because good and bad is dependent on what side you’re on. ellie lost everything because of her revenge. abby lost everything because of her revenge. ellie even lost the one thing holding her and the memory of joel together (guitar playing) 9/(?)

she did the right thing and she had to let go. this game surpassed the last of us as my favorite game ever and while TLOU will always have a place in my heart, this one did a lot for me. END OF THREAD!
