New to geography lead for next year? This thread is going to share some great resources, books and people to follow that I am often recommending to new geography leads!
This book is full of great teaching ideas that can be used across the Primary Curriculum. These ideas can be used to plan new topics or refresh existing topics and develop the teaching of geographical skills across the school. @Primageographer @StephenScoffham
This is another great book for geography subject leaders. There are seven different sections inside written by different primary geography experts covering concepts, skills, teaching approaches, curriculum and effective subject leadership. Highly recommended.

@totalgeography I have not read this book personally but it comes highly recommended. Topics covered include: current developments in geography, geography as a practical activity, skills to develop in geography, promoting curiosity and assessment.
If you are new to the subject, I recommend completing an audit of resources in the school. One important tip is to check how recently your atlases were published and check the information inside is up to date!
Another great atlas related tip is ensuring that book corners across the school include atlases as reading material. There are so many great ones to choose from. Here are just a few that I can recommend from my own book corner.
We often promote inspirational scientists, artists, sports people etc in primary school. Remember to promote inspirational geographers as well! @geoteachrach has an excellent shared resource pinned to her profile which can help with this!
Looking to promote geography across the school?
@RGS_IBG run an annual Young Geographer of the Year competition. You can a competition alongside this in school and submit your school's winners to this national competition. Our winners receive an atlas.
I have mentioned a few of these great geography resources already but it is well worth checking out this thread from @ArticuLaight for some more great websites and resources. https://twitter.com/ArticuLaight/status/1277669989781311488?s=20

Over lockdown Encounter Edu has some great live learning experiences which are all still available online. They also have resources and STEM activities available to download.
You could consider how and where stories can be used across your geography curriculum and how stories can be used to support geographical teaching.
You could focus on how you keep your geography curriculum current and up to date. Look in the news for local and global geography. Can you identify the geographical news stories from these photographs?
