@VaDOTNOVA is proposing to spend $25M, remove 18 trees, add 1.6 acres of impervious area to widen Route 50 between Penrose and Lyon Village, literally widening the divide between north and south Arlington.

VDOT's study focused on car travel times (decreasing them), without considering how many more cars would divert from I66 to Route 50. The crashes they purport to reduce predominantly occur during off-peak periods or in the reverse commute direction, not caused by congestion.
VDOT did not look at equity in their survey - they didn't even ask.
We should not be widening roads in Arlington.

Environmentalists ( @ArlTreeAction @SierraDC ) should join with transportation activists ( @betterDCregion @waba) to loudly oppose this.
