Just making sure I’m following everything regarding Jacob Blake THREAD 1/
1. Jacob Blake has a history of sexual assault (one account which you can read the official court documents for. I’d encourage you to do so) 2/
2. So now we care about sexual assaults right? We believe victims when they come forth? We validate women and their bodies? Cool. Glad we covered that one finally. But can you tell me who we are supposed to vote for in this election? 3/
I want America to be great too, but something about voting for a man that says ”grab them by the p***y” doesn’t seem right when we’re obviously not okay when a man does that? Does sexual assault deserve death or the presidency? Still not quite sure on that one 4/
3. Jacob Blake had a knife somewhere in his pocession. “was it in his hand the whole time?” “Was he reaching for it in the car?” We don’t honestly know yet. Photos depict Blake with something in his hand and police officers were heard (allegedly) saying “drop the knife!” 5/
However, the attorney general’s statement read that the knife was in the car. Again, I’d encourage you to read that. He had a knife, but we don’t have the facts yet. 6/
4. Regardless, people in possession of a knife and a criminal history deserve the death penalty. Am I still following? Because 7 shots in the back isn’t a warning. 7 shots isn’t to apprehend. 7 shots is a death sentence with no court and no jury. And we’re okay with that? 7/
Not sure when I voted for the death penalty to be cool federally, but alright got it. 8/
5. Jacob Blake resisted arrest. 9/
6. So college kids running from a party that got busted should get shot too right? I mean, they’re disregarding officers’ orders, right? I wonder how many of those kids also have a history. If they have a history AND are running from the cops, 7 shots for each of them. Got it 10/
7. Finally, let’s just say, hypothetically, someone is yielding an illegal weapon and happens to shoot people. Based on how strict we want our criminal justice system to be (death penalty on the spot, correct?), he should also get killed on the spot, right? 11/
It’d be unfathomable for him to, oh I don’t know, walk right past the cops? 12/
Police have an incredibly hard job. I do not envy for it second, which is why I am not an officer. However, individuals who make the decision to join the force know what they are getting into when they put on the badge. 13/
If an officer is physically unable to apprehend a man or intellectually incompetent to understand psychology in de-escalation techniques, we have physical proof in front of us how badly the system needs reform. 14/
We need to set our officers up for success. We need consistent psychological evals as well as required counseling for officers so when they are in a stressful situation, they have the tools to react as calmly as humanly possible. 15/
We need to set our country up for success. There’s too many inconsistencies with how individuals are treated by police officers. 16/
Jacob Blake himself is not who the country is this upset over. The country is upset over another double standard. The country is upset by a system that serves and protects who it feels like. 17/
After all, there’s photos circulating where BLM protestors are on one side of the street, and Trump supporters are on the other side. Guess which side the officers are facing in riot gear? And guess which side actually murdered people. 18/
We need to be better. We need to demand better. 18/ END THREAD
