My review to #KatyPerrySMILE - KATY PERRY AT HER BEST (A thread)
All of these "professional reviews" just shamelessly admit that no matter how much Katy improves and/or reinvents herself musically, critics are only going to evaluate her work based on personal opinions about her pop persona.
10 years later, Teenage Dream is the highest selling era in US history and the same critics who trashed it back then are now saying it's "pop perfection". I don't need any more proof to understand how rooted the hate against Katy is by the media and music critics in specific.
Katy delivered her best crafted album to date, even though her shortest one, considering Witness was almost an hour long, but it is so for streaming purposes.
Judging by the singles and the theme of the album, I was intrigued by how all of this would fit but sooner than later it all comes into place in a pleasant way: sonically juicy and diverse withing the pop spectrum; a little bit of throwback with some contemporany focus as well.
Lyrically consistent, full of optimism, feel-good vibes and fun overall, which has been Katy's signature, always managing to give an impactful message, owning every 'cliché' and making it gospel.
Katy has always had a huge platform and she uses it to spread positivity, resilience and redemption. Always with something up her sleeve Katy's creativity never fades and that's what makes Katy Perry one of the most influential and iconic pop artists to me. 10/10
