YUP!

I had a call with the access center 2 days ago & I asked about the winter semester, what the plan would be if it was “safe” for able bodied students but still too dangerous for disabled/immunocompromised students...

I was told “we will cross that bridge when we get to it” https://twitter.com/adhdelaide/status/1299351913524350976
I get that this seems reasonable.

“We don’t have all the answers yet so how can we know?”

But it’s the fact that I can tell you from experience that the minute we DO get to that bridge, we will be told that there’s nothing they can do because they didn’t have time to prepare.
It’s the refusal to consider us ACTIVELY as part of the PRESENT student body.

The dedication to solely position us as an afterthought. THAT’S what is unacceptable.
The fact that the gold standard is “let’s solve things for the abled students and design our solutions around what works for them, and THEN we’ll get to you with whatever scraps we have left”
Every plan should include us.

Designing around abled students means that we are excluded by default.

How long can schools continue to do this and pretend that it’s an accident that we’re excluded when this exclusion is done by design??

How long can they feign ignorance?
