Why we should stop this 'Law Grad' Joke. A THREAD:

1. It’s a really really bad joke guys,seriously. Most jokes start fresh and then gradually lose steam to finally become either obscure jokes or bad jokes. But this thing started off as mediocre (at best) and it was used as a borderline insult and using it will only reflect

bad on yourself. So come on people,all jokes have to die eventually and in this case we have to KILL this monstrosity.

And from here on out,the main points are all based around a simple fact. Most people are gullible and easily manipulated and to put it bluntly,people are not always intelligent.

And we can’t expect them to be intelligent all the time…they’re not all law grads (And that’s how you can actually make a joke without being disgusting.But seriously,this should be the last Law Grad joke ever)

2. The words ‘Law Grad’ lose meaning and value. And as a person who studies propaganda,I can assure you this is really really bad. Because if those words lose meaning,the opinions of the actual law grads will lose value.

A lot of people won’t feel that happening but subconsciously the degree to which you place their opinion at will decrease. And the moment their opinion doesn’t match with yours,your mind will go “ ah she’s wrong,she’s a law grad after all’.It’s a really common propaganda method

We can see this among conservative voters, they are manipulated in a way in which every opinion from a ‘feminist’ or ‘liberal’ is denied and considered wrong. But this is worse because Law grad isn’t an ideology like feminism or liberalism.

Now you might think, "You're nuts,this is something happening in twitter we’re talking about’’ But in this day and age, Social media makes and breaks Presidents and politicians and is immensely influential in shaping peoples opinion.

So in Sri Lanka where people have been trained to tolerate and actually believe stereotypes,this Law grad thing can actually hurt or kill the momentum of many potential social media activists and movements.

"What are they all tweeting about?” “Does it matter mchn,They’re just Law Grads”.
You might ask , ‘’So a couple of idiots might try to insult us,what’s the big deal?’’

The big deal is that there are a LOT of gullible people on SL twitter,especially in the ‘other side’ of twitter and they will join the bandwagon by…yes,you guessed it,shitting on Law Grads. So a lot is at stake here.

And finally,the thing i consider the most important reason why we should stop this stupid ‘joke’.

3. It genuinely hurts people. I’m not a Law grad but i genuinely want to become one someday.But even i sometimes doubt if i have what it takes (and i’m a pretty overconfident/arrogant guy).

And to go through all the suffering,putting so much effort and giving up so many things just to have people joke about it would genuinely kill me. And it might just be a mediocre joke for us. BUT

as @Pavanaynay wonderfully put it , “But it sure as hell ain’t funny for us ‘law grads’ who actually had to work hard to get where we are at life rn. Your “humor” shouldn’t be based on someone else’s pain.”

OOk,I am all for humour being “edgy” and whatever and it has gotten me into a lot of trouble here (if you know,you know) but if it hurts someone, I wouldn’t joke about it and I mean you guys shouldn’t either.
