The RNC is done; the home stretch begins. I always appreciate that so many people come here and read my stuff, listen to my bizarre grousing, and in general, put up with me.
But this is going to be a rough time, so let me suggest a few things for better social media life. /1
- Remember: Twitter is not real life. Conserve your energy; be judicious about whom you chose to engage.
- Check the profile of those you engage. There are easy ways to spot trolls. Super-new accounts with a bazillion tweets, or super-old accounts with ten followers, etc.
/2
- Check TLs if in doubt. There easy ways to spot assholes, too. "I'm no Trump supporter, but..." with a TL full of Tucker Carlson clips explaining why it's society's fault that white kids drive to riots, etc, is, uh, a tipoff.
- Block fast and often. It's okay to do that.

- Twitter skews young, liberal, and slightly silly. I get that. But if you're still purity testing your own allies, you get the insta-block too. The time for that is over. Yes, I used to be a Republican. No, I'm not going to argue with you about how it's all Reagan's fault.

- When Twitter gets busy, ask yourself if it's really necessary to post one more old meme of Trump as Tony Montana with a face full of blow. Probably not.
- I don't care whose side you're on: offensive pictures and gifs (nudity, pooping animals, etc): blocked. Let that go too.

- Finally, if you're opposing Trump, be stoic and grounded. This is the time. Trump really *could* win. Less strenuous expression of your social justice bona fides, and more ice-cold thinking about what does or does not help in the next weeks. We only get one shot at this. /6
- That last one rubs a lot of you the wrong way. Tough. Politics is strategy, and strategy doesn't care about your feelings. It's about what works, within the boundaries of the law and basic decency. This is no longer about you, or me. It's about ending a political crisis. /7
Thank you all for years of hanging out with the crankiest and most obnoxiously opinionated man on Twitter. I do appreciate it, very much. Now let's buckle up and do this thing. ✌

PS: Zep will always suck but if Trump loses I will host a dinner at an Indian restaurant.
