I'm sorry to say it as I've nothing against him & it's not really his fault, but Barnier now seems likely to go down in history as an epic fail qua negotiator - delivering nothing when with the slightest bit of goodwill on both sides an FTA (& earlier a WA) shld hv bn easy.

The entire EU negotiations since 2016 have achieved nothing but poisoning the relationship btwn the UK & EU. It wld probably hv bn better for boths sides if we'd literally not spoken btwn the euref result & the start of 2021.

It always seemed weird to me the way UK Remainer commentators looked over at Barnier doing his repeated "My offer is...nothing" routine & showered praise on it as masterful, as if that were the way smart folk do deals.
