My Zim girlies who grew up in Zim what was/is your experience with colorism ?
You can DM me as well & I’ll share anonymously
For me personally I never directly experienced it not from my family or my peers. I knew what skin bleaching was but I didn’t really understand the complete reasoning behind it.
However when I was in high school I went to a dermatologist for my acne and he prescribed a solution for my skin, and I remember a few weeks after starting it a teacher pulled me aside and asked me why I was bleaching my skin and i didn’t know what she was talking about
It wasn’t until my mom and i compared pictures that I realized my face was 3-4 shades lighter. This man gave me a bleaching solution without telling me it would bleach my skin and I was so mad but again I didn’t realise the root of his actions until i was much older
