Everything you need to know about American economy is that in this urban wetland, beneath each arch of this bridge, there are three different makeshift dwellings…somebody’s home as best they can arrange.

Increasingly I’m finding that while looking for flowers and bugs in these urban wetlands, along edges & under bridges, people are living desperate for space & safety.

I’m not necessarily afraid, but I do feel like I’m intruding. So it’s unlikely I’ll be back here.

My hard-earned privilege is applied to programs working to improve the human condition, because in my life I’ve been close enough to this that I ended my thesis acknowledgments with, “Finally, ‘but for the grace of god, go I.’”
