[ KARBALA, KING YAZID & IMAM HUSSEIN - #ASHOURA ]

Tomorrow is Muharram 10, day of ashoura .

On this day, Muslims observe a fast to remind the whole world of the CATACLASMIC showdown between Islam & Kufr.
Wherein Allah miraculously saved Prophet Moosa(a.s) and his people from the tyrant Pharaoh. Giving victory to Islam

Incidentally, Imam Hussein(r.a) too was martyred on the field on Karbala an this very day on 61 A.H (680 C.E)

Officially, Shias "mourn" this day
(Practically over-exaggerate this day just like christians over-exaggerate the crucifixion)

What really happened on that day?

Who was Imam Hussain(رضي الله عنه)?

He was the grandson of Prophet(ﷺ) and the son of Ali, the Prophet's cousin. He was a great scholar loved & respected by all of the Sahaba and the Salaf.

Some of his virtues: (as well as that of his brother, Hasan)

Caliph Mu'awiya(رضي الله عنه), upon his death in Capital Damascus appointed his son Yazeed to succeed him.

This was after consulting with senior sahaba,governors of various provinces & leaders of the people.

A brief summary:

Contrary to popular perception, Hussain & Yazid WERE NOT ENEMIES . INFACT, THEY WERE COMRADES IN-ARMS WHO WAGED JIHAD AGAINST THE KUFFAR TOGETHER.

Al-Hussain also shared good relationship with Mu'awiya

ALSO, HUSSAIN DID NOT REBEL AGAINST YAZEED. This is a shi'i lie. Hussain thought that Yazeed did not get enough allegiance to be appointed as Caliph.

Infact, the People of Medina & Mecca hadnt given the bay'ah yet. Al-Hussein was in Mecca at that time.

Infact, Hussein was invited BY NONE OTHER THAN THE SHIA OF IRAQ(KUFA). They promised him allegiance & a strong army. Accepting their pledge,Hussein travelled to Iraq with 72 followers to claim leadership. (despite the sahaba advising against this)

Fearing that Husayn was coming with a "large army" to topple him, the Governor of Kufa, Ibn Zyad send an army of 4,000 led by the military commander Umar Ibn Sa'd.

(Note:King Yazid didnt issue the order of killing Hussain.His deputies went too far in following his commands)

King Yazid only ordered to resist Husayn's efforts to become Caliph, even if that meant fighting him. Yazid wanted Hussein alive. (he loved him & respected him)

Trusting the promises of shia, Hussein & his 72 followers travelled to Iraq. Only to find those who OFFERED HIM SUPPORT, ABANDON HIM & BETRAY HIM

Betrayed by shia, unable to amass an army, Hussain & his 72 followers finally confronted the army led by Ibn Sa'd at the field of karbala. A tragic event occurred there, one that would be a source of Fitna to Muslims who defend the Sunnah to this day.

Hussein offered Ibn Sa'd 3 choices:
a) Send us back to Medina
b) Send us back to frontier to wage Jihad against Kuffar
c) Send him to Yazeed (to pledge him allegiance)

All these requests were rejected.Upon the orders of the Governor, Ibn Sa'd compelled Hussain to surrender before Ibn Ziyad, who was notorius for his enmity to Hussein & his barbaric acts. Knowing that he would be tortured & desecrated, Hussain refused & decided to fight

Ambushed by a 4000 strong army, bereft of weapons; Husayn & his companions were brutally slaughtered & butchered. It was a bloodbath. Husayn's body was mutilated & desecrated in a vile manner. Al-Hussein's head was severed and sent to Ibn Ziyad to Koofa

Then Ibn Ziyad demonstrated AL-Hussein's head in public. And then proclaimed:

After all these insanities, their heads where then send to Yazeed in Damascus. Shocked on seeing Hussain's head,YAZID CRIED & even cursed Ibn Ziyad. King Yazeed said: "By God! If it had been I who had accompanied him, I'd have let him off. May God have mercy on al-Husayn"

Also, it is proven that yazid was kind and merciful towards the family members of Hussein(who was his former comrade).
Infact, Yazeed recompansated them in a proper manner.

The womenfolk of Yazeed mourned ALONGSIDE Hussain's family.

ALSO, During these days of stay in his palace, King Yazid never ate lunch or dinner without inviting Ali(son of Hussain) to join him. He consoled him

So he regretful was he that he couldnt eat without him!

However, Yazeed didnt take action against Ibn Ziyad & his criminal associates. He couldnt. HE JUST WASNT CAPABLE. He was only consolidating his reign & couldnt possibly alienate his Iraqi supporters. (while he was still seeking allegiance from Hejaz)

Was this a mistake from King Yazid's part? Maybe. HOWEVER, didnt Ali himself desist taking action against the murderers of Caliph Uthman for the sake of UNITY & PEACE?? FOR THE GREATER GOOD? YES

However, King Yazid's regime was responsible for other greater atrocities against Muslims (which wont be discussed here)

Due to this, a small minority of scholars like Ibn Jawzi,Abu Ya'la,Taftasani & Suyuti(رَحْمَةُ الله عليهم) permitted cursing yazeed

By consensus, it is forbidden to curse a Muslim by name. Yazeed undoubtedly was a Muslim
Thus, the correct poistion on Yazeed adopted by majority of Islamic scholars(including Ghazzali) is this:

The martyrdom of Hussein was exaggerated by enemies of Islam (jews & majoos) to create a neo-pagan narrative

This birthed theological shiism as we know it today.

Ibn saba Al-yahoodi & Abu Lulu Al-Majoosi were its first proponents.

Imam Hussain would have fasted alongside us Muslims, just like Prophet(ﷺ) in remembrance of our beloved Prophet Moosa( عليه السلام)

Today, I fasted the Sunnah fast of 9th Muharram prescribed by the Prophet(ﷺ) .

Ibn Abbas reported that this was prescribed to different from People of Book.

The fast is about to be over now.

Remember yourself of Prophet Moosa(عليه السلام) & his sacrifices(like Hussain would)

Ali's delayal of taking action against Uthman's killers (for the Greater Good) cannot be compared to yazeed's total,deliberate neglect on taking action against the killers of Hussein [even though he consolidated power]
