hi! i thought i’d talk abt the ca in sdoc3. it’s been frustrating to me as well and i’ve looked into it more and i just thought i’d share my observations on why it seems to keep happening. (before i start i’ve been sick for a bit so apologies in advance if i come off badly) (1/
firstly, i’d like to make clear that cultural appropriation is wrong and we should hold people accountable to their acts of appropriation + i am not claiming to be an expert, this thread is made as a result to my digging on why it seems to keep happening despite backlash. 2/
to my understanding, the c-ent dont connect the culture to the clothes/hairstyle the way the west does. please note that im not trying to excuse this behaviour but i’ve talked to c-fans before and they’ve said that they don’t understand why certain clothes/hairstyle 3/
are offensive to people due to the lack of context. they seem to see it more as a stylistic choice than appropriation. so i believe it’s ignorance in this direction that’s led to most of the industry and fans being “ok” with ca. (this is also most likely why c-fans 4/
don’t say anything in the face of acts of cultural appropriation such as artists wearing braids or clothing items that are ca.) 5/
as to why it keeps happening, i believe this has to do with the audience they are catering to. as ive mentioned, most of c-fans don’t understand why certain items of clothings/hairstyles would be ca and since they are the ones being catered to, the industry 6/
might easily overlook this as well. and as us int fans aren’t the ones being catered to, they can also easily overlook our protests and opinions towards their artists’ acts of ca. 7/
that being said, even though we might be ignored it doesn’t mean that we can’t continue trying to reach out to talk to them about i
again im really not trying to excuse anyone this is purely me being frustrated and looking into why it seems to keep on happening despite how much it’s protested by fans and emailed to about
