One of the reasons I'm so adamant about supporting fic writers I like and sharing their stuff around is because of how little appreciation (and honestly, respect) fic writers get both in fandom and in general
Fic writers put out so much content for fandom for free and under the rare circumstance they do charge, they deserve to do so. People turn to ao3, ffn, and wattpad all the time for entertainment, but it's so rare for fic writers to actually get appreciation for their work
Fanart is so much easier to digest than a fanfic since one requires far less time than the other. Both deserve attention since artists and writers both work so hard to have their pieces seen. It's time to start openly appreciating fic writers for their work
There's a misconception that anyone can sit down and write a story, but it's far more complicated than that. Planning, writing, and editing is not a piece of cake like people believe it is. There's a lot of work that goes into putting out fiction
Within fandom, fic writers rarely have their work spread around. Outside of fandom, writing fanfic is seen as less worthy than physically published work. Please leave kind words for fanfic writers and spread their stuff around, everybody!!
Getting a kind comment or a like on my stories always puts a smile on my face, and positive feedback is a huge motivator towards writing more. If you like a fic, say so! Share it around with those who would like it! We love that shit more than we can say!
I've been working on writing for more than six years now, and I've still only gotten one of my pieces to be "popular" once. It really is hard to gain a consistent following when fic is such a disrespected art form. Please spread fic you love; it really does help
I've been rambling for a while, but I feel like you get the point. It's time for fandom to start appreciating fic writers the way it appreciates fan artists. Thank you for coming to my ted talk
