It& #39;s late and I can& #39;t sleep and I want to speak up about something I& #39;ve noticed since I& #39;ve joined Twitter. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🧵" title="Thread" aria-label="Emoji: Thread">
When I first joined, I honestly didn& #39;t expect the amount of followers I& #39;ve reached in such a short amount of time. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to share my experiences with other like-minded individuals.
Overall the tech community is GREAT, but there seem to be a lot of posts focused on "how to boost engagement" that are rather egotistical.
Engagement is great! But it is a 2 way street. Too many times I see an influencer post a question with hundreds of likes and comments, yet they don& #39;t comment back or even like the comments.
Or an influencer will comment on a who-to-follow post that everyone tagged is amazing, but they aren& #39;t following all those people themselves. It& #39;s rather hypocritcal and seems to be a way to drive up more likes for that person& #39;s ego.
As a collective dev community, we should all be doing our best to engage with each other for learning and networking experiences, and not just for popularity. (Most of us aren& #39;t in high school anymore!)
It can be easy to get caught up in striving for popularity instead of building relationships with other REAL people who share similar goals.
I think all of us want to gain a following, and there& #39;s nothing wrong with that. But we should be actively engaging with everyone while building that following, and focus on building a following that has actual meaning instead of trying to pad numbers to boost our egos.
/end rant, sorry if I upset you
