It is now compulsory to wear a mask when outside in the public space in Paris. This includes pedestrians, cyclists, electric scooter users, motorbike and scooter riders on pain of €135 fine. You may not remove your mask to smoke a cigarette or eat a sandwich, City Hall says.
The police are saying they will use their "judgement" when it comes to smoking and eating. I am guessing there will be warnings as opposed to fines in this case.
City Hall is opposed to making mask-wearing obligatory for cyclists and has said it will be discussing this with the prefect.
And we've just heard that cyclists and joggers will NOT have to wear masks.
So mask wearing is obligatory in the Paris - Ile de France region (75) and the "petite couronne", which is neighbouring departments: Hauts-de-Seine (92); Seine-Saint-Denis (93); Val-de-Marne (94).
This follows similar regulations in Marseilles. There was a rise of 6,111 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours to yesterday, only partially explained by increased testing to 800,000+ tests a week.
Here are the Santé Publique France (French health authority) Covid-19 figures for the 24 hours up to Thursday 27 August.
