An appreciation & reflection thread on @SchittsCreek.

I’ve seen every episode. My daughter and I began watching the @cbc series from the beginning during quarantine.

Nothing like #SchittsCreek existed when I was her age, it’s a great Canadian show & @danjlevy is wonderful.
Tonight, we watched ‘Open Mic’ where Patrick ( @olreid) serenades David ( @danjlevy) with an acoustic version of “Simply the Best” - it’s a wonderful moment in the show.

Now stick with me, there’s a reason I’m sharing my experience...
As a kid, I doubt if a show like @SchittsCreek was on @CBC I’d be watching it - no swearing on Danger Bay, no same sex relationships on Beachcombers... the moment between Patrick and David didn’t exist in my world, in fact it probably would have been mocked by any man in my life.
When you watch the scene between Patrick and David, you feel the love, the care, the resilience & comfort of their developing relationship - it’s a love scene.
I watched my kid, looking for her reaction, she didn’t have anything profound. She looked at Patrick singing to David as equally as she did Leo & Kate on the stairs of the Titanic or Phillip & Anne on the trapeze of the Greatest Showman.

At the end, she said that was so cute.
So there I am, totally enveloped in a wonderful TV moment, one that is inclusive of so many #LGBTQ2 people in our world who previously (and too often still) had to hide who they were or who they loved, who were met with shame & hate...and my child can only see equal love.
Normalizing love & care in open television media makes the world a better place, normalizing diversity makes the world a better place because no matter how down we all feel, #LoveWins and @SchittsCreek shows that.
