I'm going to do a stupid thing on the internet and be nuanced.
MSA is the brainchild of a few founders, most notably the late Dr. Ahmed Sakr. While it produces this a cast of cookie cutter characters, I think the founding of such an org during its time is worthy of respect. https://twitter.com/mehnaaaaz/status/1298857458157457408

This isn't in conflict with my previous statement.
I think the act of creating an institution in a relatively foreign land with constrained resources is an incredible forward thinking act. The fact of the matter is the MSA plays an incredibly influential role /n

in young Muslim Americans embracing Islam as part of their identity. Without it, I fear that we would of been a bunch of divided ethnic groups with Islam in the cultural backdrop. I'll admit ofc this counterfactual is hard to prove.
The institution is bold act in being a bedrock for the future of many Muslim Americans to come. As many problems as it has, I'd much prefer this than an alternative future where shitty diaspora poetry becomes canon over the Qur'an lmao
I'm surely the fact that you have a reference point like the MSA to be like "I am not this type of Muslim" is a testament to some sort of accomplishment of establishing a normative Muslim org. That's freakin sick
