Most character actors begin their careers as leads before finding a home in supporting roles. They usually have unique physical features that allow them to both stand out and blend in. If you've ever said "Where have I seen them before?" they're probably a character actor. <cont>

While fans of their work often take offense to them being character actors, the term is one of admiration - given to talent that can effortlessly portray unusual, interesting, or eccentric characters. <cont>

Because the film industry sadly undervalues women with quirky features, the mantle of "character actor" is rarely bestowed on actresses, even though there are a handful of amazing female performers who have proudly taken on the mantle. <cont>
