I've got a little shaggy dog tale about etymology. It's a little blue, but I think you'll like it.
Let's talk about Fascism.

As we know it today, the word fascism comes from the National Fascist Party of Italy (Partito Nazionale Fascista), which ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943.
The PNF came from a reorganization of the Fasci Italiani di Combattimento, founded by Benito Mussolini.

The FIC was a a fascio (meaning "bundle"), which was a type of political league that became popular in Italy from the late 19th century.
The name fasces comes from the Latin fasces, represented as a bundle of rods tied around an axe. Since the Etruscans, the fasces symbolized strength in unity, and it is still widely used today.
The word fasces, being so old, evolved and spread throughout Europe and made its way into many languages in many different forms.

Through France, fasces evolved into fagot

And into English, became faggot.
So if you want to say it in native English, without all that fancy-pants Latin, the word Fascism literally translates into Faggotry.
I am sorry to everybody, especially my fellow LGBTQ+, for this thread. Regretfully, somebody had to say it.
