“There is no one way to write – just like there is no one way to parent a child or roast a turkey. But terrible ways to do all three” – Ann Handley

Same here.

The first step for me was a book recommended by a friend.

Everyone Writes

✔️Content is everything your customer touches.
✔️Good writing is the mirror of clear thinking.
✔️Think of your content as a communication medium connecting people who may purchase your products.
✔️Quality content = loaded with value, inspiration and emotional connections to your audience.

✔️Utility x Inspiration x Empathy = Quality Content

✔️Be brief. But that doesn’t mean your content needs to be stripped down.
✔️Take as long as you need to get your story across but cut the fat.

✔️Make it clear and don’t make the reader have to work hard.

Respect the Reader
Twelve Steps for Longer Copy: (ex ebooks)

1) Goal – what is the purpose of your work?

2) Reframe – place your reader into it; why does it matter to them?

3) Seek Out Data Examples – use anecdotes, credible sources, etc.

4) Organize – use lists, bullets or how-to guides, etc.
5) Write to One Person - focus directly on a real person in your mind

6) Product Ugly Draft First – throw up your words on one page; forget about grammar

7) Walk Away – separate yourself, create distance & time away

8) Rewrite – organize into something someone wants to read
9) Give it a Great Headline or Title – give it the ‘wow’ factor

10) Have Someone Edit it – grammar professional recommended

11) One Final Look for Readability – almost ready for release

12) Publish – Done!!??

One more question….. WHAT NOW?
What is the call to action?
What do you want your reader to do next?

Additional Tips for Twitter:

Write every tweet as if you are speaking to your friend, mate, family member, cat, fish, whomever. These are real people you are connecting with.
Establish who you are and what you stand for.
Tell your bigger story; what matters and be authentic.

Share a sense of your character and who you are.
Don’t pitch slap, you are building relationships not running a marketing channel.
Personalized, not personal.

You are a real person, be genuine and authentic but watch the TMI.

Be cautious with automation. Allow the tools to extend your reach and ease, but don’t rely on them.
