ATLiens is my favorite Hip Hop album of all time and the most significant album in OutKast’s career.

OutKast wanted to prove themselves to the world with ATLiens. The album represented change, growth, and individuality.

Their debut album presented OutKast as one in the same while ATLiens presented OutKast as 2 different individuals that complement each other.

They camped out at hotels with Organized Noize to create a masterpiece. They were inspired by East Coast Hip Hop, Soul, and Funk. OutKast recorded over 30 songs for the album but picked out the BEST 14. They wanted ATLiens to be everything they imagined.

𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗗𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘇 (𝗜𝗻 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗰)
OutKast were known as black dog and black wolf in HS bc they were dominant MCs. This track proved that nothing changed.
“Every time I rhyme for y’all, I’m looking to prove a point...” Big Boi says in the 1st verse.

𝗔𝗧𝗟𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘀
The title track is a combo of ATL & aliens which stands for their hometown and their status in Hip Hop. It was produced by both members which was a great experience for them. This track let’s you know who they are and prepares you for what’s to come.

In ATLiens, Andre 3000 raps about being sober in the 4th verse. While working on the album he was inspired to become the best version of himself. He became spiritual, vegan, sober, practiced celibacy, and earned his GED.

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 (𝗠𝗲 & 𝗬𝗼𝘂)
When OutKast presented the album to their label everyone thought it sounded like a comic book. That inspired the album cover and comic book for the album.
The label didn’t want this song to be released, but the duo always proves people wrong.

The comic book that went along with the album portrays OutKast as superheroes that defend Hip Hop from negativity. It was illustrated by Frank Gomez who currently works for Marvel Comics.

𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗻
This is one of the most personal tracks on the album. Andre 3000 raps about his upbringing & lust, Big Boi raps about losing his Aunt Renee who was his guardian. This correlates to the biblical Babylon which represents corruption.

𝗪𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻’
The year prior to the release of ATLiens, OutKast was booed at the Source Awards. Andre 3000 told the audience “the South got something to say” which fueled everyone.
Andre raps “I felt the pressure like sun shining while raining...” in the 2nd verse.

ATLiens opened the doors for afrofuturism in Hip Hop and introduced OutKast to a new audience.
“When we started doing the more experimental rap, started talking about aliens, that's when more and more white people started coming to the shows” said Andre.

𝟭𝟯𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿/𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗹𝗱
OutKast ended ATLiens with reflection. After proving themselves to be one of the greatest throughout the album, they rapped about what made them who they are. They came to a realization that they were no longer little boys.
