I decided to look into this account and it's emergence. Following their donation link, which leads you to an NGO called Friends of Caritas Cuba, based in Boston. The NGO was formed as a committee of Catholic Charities of Boston in 1999 and in 2005, incorporated as an NGO. https://twitter.com/sheyylasuarez/status/1298836727952478209
Here is their board. My main focus for this thread will be Micho Spring and Consuelo Aróstegui Isaacson, the founders of the org.
Micho Spring is the current president and chair of global corporate practice at Weber Shandwick, formerly known as Sawyer Miller.
Weber Shandwick is a public relations firm. When they were known as Sawyer Miller, they helped influence elections in Czechoslovakia and Israel. Before their name change, they were working on the campaigns of Hillary Clinton, Obama, and John McCain. https://www.newsweek.com/sawyer-miller-starbucks-global-politics-90159
Consuelo Arostegui Isaacson is the president of Friends of Caritas Cubana and in 1983 was serving as the Finance Director of the Department of Social Services. https://fincafoundation.org/about-us/board-of-directors/
The Aróstegui and Spring families 'belonged to exclusive clubs, ... and were at the top of the social pyramid.' They expected their escape to be a temporary one, 'We left everything in the house, paid the servants' salaries in advance.....' http://louisakasdon.com/pdfs/CUBA.pdf
Their want to do "humanitarian work" in Cuba came about when Cardinal Law, had invited Spring to join a delegation to visit Cuba for the Pope's visit in 1998.
Cardinal Law, also known by the name Bernard Francis Law was the Archbishop of Boston from 1984 until 2002 due to his involvement in the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston sex abuse scandal; it was proven that Law was letting the sexual abuse of multiple minors be swept under the rug
One priest in Law's archdiocese, John Geoghan, allegedly sexually abused more than 130 children in six different parishes during a 30 year long career. https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/special-reports/2002/01/06/church-allowed-abuse-priest-for-years/cSHfGkTIrAT25qKGvBuDNM/story.html
Law was eventually appointed Archpriest of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in 2004, two years after the forfeiting of his position in Boston.
The organization continues to have ties to the Catholic Church and still does mission work under the guise of aid. Their funding comes from extravagant banquets in which they congregate with other wealthy individuals, drink and bid on auctions containing items like an LV wallet.
Here is a picture of some auctioneers at the FCC Fall Fiesta Fundraiser that took place on October 2016. '....it was just the Latin night our guest were craving, with Cuban sandwiches, hand rolled cigars by CF Dominicana Cigars and a silent auction..' https://guestofaguest.com/new-york/events/inside-the-friends-of-caritas-cubana-9th-annual-fall-fiesta-fundraiser
Here is an excerpt from a PBS interview in 2002 with Bryan Hehir, who is also a board member for Friends of, in which he explains why the war in Afghanistan was a "just war." http://www.pbs.org/now/printable/transcript_hehir_print.html
The mission of Friends of Caritas Cubana is very clear; a return to the Cuba of old, the colonial Cuba that allowed servitude.
