Noname is brilliant, flawed, trying. Indya Moore is brilliant, flawed, trying. Billy Porter is brilliant, flawed, trying. You are brilliant, flawed, trying. I am brilliant, flawed, trying. And none of us are above reproach or accountability. And none of us are disposable.
Here’s what I believe from actually working with people offline, young people mainly, Black people mainly, queer and trans people mainly. They will disappoint, maybe even disgust and harm others. Doesn’t mean they’re disposable. Doesn’t mean you personally have to hold them.
If you’re connected to me on social media, know that I too struggle with grace and forgiveness. Frankly, I don’t have it for everyone. I can’t hold or help everyone I’m in community with. And I still want them to be better, do better, be free.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again. Trying to hold people you’ve never actually met, shared space, or established trust with “accountable” because you’re connected on social media is usually performative and employs bully tactics. You want them humiliated or better?
