The purpose of sports is athletic competition, physical health and entertainment.

The purpose of politics is to sort out our problems.

Some folks want politics to dominate ever realm of life, including sports, entertainment, our personal lives.

I'm not in that camp.
If individual athletes & leagues decide to make political statements, that's their right.
But I don't follow sports to hear the politics of athletes & owners. I don't care if they express them or if they don't express them.
If I want politics, I'll watch the Legislature on TV.
If I want politics, I debate on Twitter. I read up on an issue, talk & listen to all sides & come up with an opinion. I care deeply about politics. I write about it for a living.
But I also want to escape politics, so I look to the arts & sports for that, not for more politics.
The world has seen all kinds of nations where everything is political, where that realm intrudes into and comes to dominate all other realms, including into all personal relations. I would not want to have lived in any of those nations. So I resist that trend in my own life.
