CONTENT WARNING: EXTREMELY RACIST LANGUAGE

In case anyone has any doubts of the racism still faced by members of the Black community in 2020, I invite you to read this email I received last week in its entirety.

This man woke up on a Wednesday, and decided that 6:51am was a perfectly reasonable time to go on a hateful, vile rant about not only me, but Black people in general. This language would have been recognized as incredibly racist 100 years ago, and yet here we are in 2020... (2/7)
...in the midst of a global uprising against racist injustices, and this man felt comfortable using this language in an email to an elected official, due only to the color of my skin. (3/7)
So when I speak about white supremacists, when I speak about racists, know that it is not hyperbole in any way - it is the reality myself and Black people across this state and country face on a regular basis. (4/7)
Just over the past few days, I saw this exact kind of thinking in full force on the streets of Kenosha. You may not think these people are out there, but believe me, they are, and they might very well be otherwise "pleasant" members of your community. (5/7)
I am no stranger to this kind of racist abuse, and I will continue to hold my head high as a Black man, and as a human being. But to those who may be reading this, I ask this: confront and condemn racism when you see it. Call bigots out for what they are. Defend... (6/7)
...the dignity of the Black and Brown folks not just in your life, but all over the world. Make it clear that racism is unacceptable in any space. And keep marching for a better future. (7/7)
