Comrades: if you want to be a shield bearer but don’t know how to build a shield. Fret not I have a few suggestions. A shield thread. #denverprotests
Shields don’t need to be fancy; they just need to have good surface area be able to take pepperball shots, be light enough so as to not wear you out and cheap. Materials that are easy and cheap to find: sheet metal, sanded plywood (avoid OBS) plastic tubs/lids 1/
To make your shield antifa worthy: add a nylon strap usually attach the strap from one corner to the opposite caddy-corner. So you can sling the shield behind your back. Perfect for training and for the few times you Cary it. But aren’t using it.
Turn your shield into a sign, while still being safe about it: get some reflective tape. A clever or 1312 cardboard sign or whatever I’m not your real dad. Use the reflective tape to attach the sign to your shield. This accomplished a few things.
The shield should be large enough to provide cover to 60% of your body mass. Maybe 3x3 or 3x4 it doesn’t need to be more than 1/2” thick either. Again consider weight, while you should be willing to ditch the shield if necessary you should t be tired while holding it. 2/
Affix cheap handles in the center of the shield at a comfortable distance for your needs. Use flat screws and nuts to secure; don’t want to accidentally hurt ur self. Make sure the edges are not sharp. If needed use pool noodles around the edge. This protects your comrades
For style points spray paint the pig facing side black. Avoid symbols or words, it makes your shield recognizable, staying as anonymous as possible is crucial to your safety. Your shield is done, more advanced details to follow.
