The Premier League way remains the best way to make a league attractive for viewers in this era, IMO.

A fan-focused strategy rather than a superstar/player-focused strategy. Engendering the growth of club fanbases and fan culture beyond the locals.
From a global Arsenal vs Man Utd thing to a global Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man City thing. Then a little trickling down to the likes of Everton, Leicester, Aston Villa (O’Neill) etc.

Ex. The WPOTY left the league & the league didn’t really feel it.
FPL was the final masterstroke by the Premier League. They make you care about players from the team in 20th place. Without even watching games, you know half their XI off FPL.

They invested heavily into making that product extremely attractive. Great design & user experience.
Great features, etc.

Anticipation for a new season isn’t only based on the clubs themselves. Anticipation for matchdays as well. FPL adds a lot to it as well. It’s a masterpiece. Pure genius.

They’ve made that product exceptional. They have entire shows for it.
Other leagues are sleeping heavily. It’s almost embarrassing at this point. Their marketing efforts don’t come close. They’ve not been able to really leverage all they have, especially their obvious advantages. It’s almost like they are content to play second fiddle.
La Liga, for me, has been the most disappointing in this. A whole decade of dominating two different European competitions. A whole decade of having two of the greatest players ever in their prime, and two of the best teams ever at their best.

How have they leveraged these?
Imagine the Premier League had that? Imagine the Premier League had Prime Ronaldo and Prime Messi? Pep Barcelona and Mourinho Madrid? + Simeone Atlético? Imagine they had CL three-peaters? 2-time treble winners?

No, really. Just imagine how much they would have done with these.
