One of the most consistent players in the Championship, Matty Cash has reinvented himself as a full-back after switching his role from attacker to defender.
Cash has a good knowledge of exploiting spaces and game reading. His sharp defensive ability plus dribbling and crossing makes him a killer addition in the defensive 4-2-3-1 formation manager Sabri Lamouchi uses.
Some of the points are explained below.
Matty has brilliant defending qualities. Matty bends his upper body and his knees during this 1 v 1 situation. This way, Matty can quickly change the angle of his run as per the opposition. (1/2)
Once Matty gets the idea that the opposition doesn't have an option, he makes a sliding tackle resulting in a corner. Matty loves to make a timed sliding tackle, this way he prevents the opposition from reaching
dangerous zones. (2/2)
Matty when receives the ball near the halfway line with acres of space around him, The opposition comes near him to close him down but Matty moves inward into the
half-space which is the opposite of the opposition blocker predicted and thus taken out of the game. (1/2)
Matty makes a dribble and now finds himself in between the lines of the opposition midfield and defensive line. With no 23 moving outwards, he has the option to make a pass to him since he is in the blindside of the opposition fullback. He goes for the glory but misses. (2/2)
Matty completes 1.4 interceptions, 2.6 tackles and wins 4.5 ground duels(all per game).
Matty Cash has a current market value of €3.84m and his current contract with Nottingham Forest expires on 30th June 2023.
Linked with RB Leipzig in the previous summer, Cash is currently under the radar of many Premier League teams. So further in this thread, we will discuss and compare Cash with some other full-backs who he can replace in the Premier League.
One of the most important players for @Wolves this season, Matt Doherty is currently linked with Spurs. The club may need someone to inherit Doherty and Cash ticks all the requirements.
Pablo Zabaleta has recently ended his contract with @WestHam. Having a shortage of full-back the Hammer will definitely search the market for a new one and Cash could be an ideal cheap solution.
George Baldock had a great season with @SheffieldUnited. But in future Chris Wilder may need to replace him and Matty Cash could be that guy.
An important player for @OfficialBHAFC, Martin Montoya is currently 29 years old. Soon the club needs to replace him and Matty Cash can fill up his boots quite easily.
The English right-back of @CPFC, Martin Kelly in slowly entering the twilight days of his career. So manager Roy Hodgson soon may need a young replacement of Kelly and Cash can fit that profile easily.
The veteran player of @BurnleyOfficial Phil Bardsley soon may decide to retire from the game and the Lancashire club may need to search the market for his replacement. Matty Cash should be an option on their list.
The 21-year-old French right back, Yan Valery hasn’t been that effective for @SouthamptonFC this season. The club may think about bringing competition for him and Matty Cash could be the ideal one.
Unsurprisingly, Cash is still raw talent but at 23, he still has plenty of time to improve. Should he stay at the Championship and continue his development or should he make his way to the Premier League? We would like to know your thoughts on this.
