UFOs (especially in the ultraterrestrial control-system conception of Vallee) are an encounter with radical alteriority, and so may be an important part of an antidote to capitalist realism. This is different from the posadist take. https://twitter.com/Comrade_Yui/status/1299052466512769034
UFOs are circular because Other begins with 'O'.
Here's the thing:

Genuine UFO experiences (and genuine cryptid experiences), no matter their material basis, are characterized by High Strangeness. They recombine the experiencer's own set and setting with an alien element in a destablizing way -- one that cannot be integrated.
They may not be encounters with extraterrestrials but they are certainly encounters with aliens. They might be encounters with some splinter of Reality.

They don't just tell you what you want to hear or what you fear hearing. They aren't just dreams or psychedelic hallucinations
They are the magic bullet that, once inside you, forces you to keep mutate (for better or for worse). And you can get a little bit of this by reading reports. They are encounters with infohazards that are not easily transmitted.
And, if we can't imagine a world after capitalism, and if we don't know where to even start, why not start with thinking all the other thoughts we can't think?
After thinking these thoughts, we are Something Else.
These encounters are deeply personal, so the full effect can't be transmitted by language. But they are also potent in their otherness.
I don't know if 'believing in UFOs' is exactly the right term. Once people start believing UFOs are one thing or another, their journey tends to stagnate. Compare to RAW or PKD or Whitley Streiber, who never really settled and therefore kept changing.
But certainly, if we want to have a future worth living in, we must look to the Damned portion of human experience -- the things that people constantly encounter, but that nobody is actually able to integrate. That's the bleeding edge, where the splinter is entering.
